FAQs

An apprenticeship is a structured training pathway that combines paid work with nationally recognised training, allowing you to learn a skilled trade while gaining hands‑on experience.
A traineeship is similar to an apprenticeship but usually focuses on non‑trade or service‑based industries. You learn on the job while completing formal training that leads to a nationally recognised qualification.
You don’t need prior experience—just a willingness to learn, good communication, reliability, and a positive attitude. Some industries may require basic numeracy, problem‑solving skills, or physical fitness.
Yes. As an apprentice or trainee, you earn a wage while completing formal training through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). Your on‑the‑job experience and classroom learning work together to build your skills.
You can be employed directly by a business or through AGA as we are a Group Training Organisation (GTO). A GTO becomes your legal employer and places you with host employers to give you real‑world experience.
Pay rates depend on your age, industry, and whether you’re in your first, second, or third year. Wages increase as you progress and gain more skills. Apprentices and trainees are covered by national awards that set minimum pay and conditions.
Most apprenticeships take three to four years to complete, depending on the trade. Traineeships are generally shorter, often between 12 months and 2 years.
